I recently went to Florida to visit with my Grandmother who will be turning 96 in September. She wrote me this poem and read it to me in a moment that will stay with me forever.

A photographer’s so important

In a very special way,

To be where there is action

occuring every day.

In capturing the moment,

timing is an art;

And when the second’s right

the camera does its part.

To trust on memory is weak

when a crime is taking place,

But quickly snapping at the scene

can help to solve the case.

To photograph a family group

in a special accuracy

Preserves a wonderous treasure

for future ones to see.

So let us thank photographers

who stop the hands of time

For giving us unique pictures

Wings That Carry Me Home

You cannot control anybody else's actions. And no matter how well you think you have your life planned out, it really is only up to you on what you do with it. Especially when a wrench is thrown at those plans, completely unexpected.
I recently went to Peru to find peace, solace and beauty in life and to regain a piece of me that I had taken away. While sitting perched atop a cliff, looking down on the beauty of Machu Picchu before me

watching the warm setting sun cover this ancient civilization, the words from LIVE's song "Wings" surrounded me and gave me exactly what I was searching for...a little bit of clarity.
"Sometimes you've got to die to be born again
Sometimes you've got to fight
Sometimes you've got to learn
Sometimes you've got to burn the old brush out, so the new can grow

The weight that lays on your shoulders
Could be the wings that carry you home"

This was an empowering moment for me as my whole life stood before me, waiting for me to make a move. The words from yet another song spoke out to me "Love Shines"
"On a crystal clear blue mornin' 

There is a peace that only you can know 

It is truth and love and it is always there 

Even if you fall down 

Even if you fall down, love shines

Think of gentle Jesus 

Think of the Buddha underneath his tree 

They taught the world about love and how we all can be 

How we can all be free

Open our hearts and see love shine"

So you see it's not about the fact that you can't control other peoples actions, it's what you choose to do with it when it effects your own life. No one can take away what you are made of unless you let them. Unless you choose to let them. As for me, I'm coming out of this stronger, with a sense of being, a clarity knowing that I am filled with so much love that I will give freely to my family, friends and clients. God has blessed me in so many ways and I thank him for his spirit.

Fran Pieragostini

Being able to capture people as they truly are, the beauty within, the tiny moments that make up our lives is indescribable. My friend Fran was an incredibly gorgeous woman, so full of life and love, a wonderful mother, friend, daughter and wife. She passed away on Tuesday and I am so grateful that I am able to share with the world what this woman brought to each life she came into. We will always love you and miss you Fran.

Francesca M. Pieragostini and unborn child of Brewster, NY passed away peacefully on July 15, 2008. She was born on June 28, 1975 in Mount Kisco, NY to Nicola and Rosa Cambareri and raised in Bedford, N.Y. Francesca graduated from Fox Lane High School in Bedford and earned her BFA degree in Interior Design from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. She was married on September 21, 2001 to Justin Pieragostini at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mt. Kisco. She leaves behind her husband Justin, son AJ, parents Nicola & Rosa, siblings Joanna and Rocco, grandparents Giovanna and Francesco, father and mother-in-law Anthony and Cathy, brothers-in-law Adam and Joe, sisters-in-law Nicole and Kristie, grandmother-in-law Concetta and nephew Aidan. Francesca was an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Never one to accept limitations, she followed and realized all her dreams, living a rich and fulfilling life. She will be remembered for spirit, her remarkable strength and the happiness she brought to everyone around her. We would like to thank our family and friends for all of their love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. I've been deleting old archived jobs from my Buffalo TeraStation since I am completely out of space when I realized that I wasn't freeing up any memory. Then I saw there was a trashbox. So, after reading the manual and deleting the 23,000 items in the trashbox I now have over 150 gigs of storage! Yahoooo! I feel like I just won the lottery!

Yes, it's horrible...but we scare the pants off of trick or treaters (AND their parents!) on Halloween. We look forward to this every year and laugh our butts off all night as the unexpected run away screaming...sometimes without even getting candy! People must really like it because they keep coming back and we get more and more trick or treaters every year. This year we even had tons of people getting their picture taken in our front yard.

Locks of Love

My College Roommate, Bethany, has such a big heart! For YEARS she has talked about growing her hair long enough to donate to Locks of Love. That time has finally come and I was so excited to be able to document this emotional experience for her. 13 inches of her beautiful golden blonde hair was donated to make a hair piece for a child suffering from long term medical hair loss. Bethany's sister-in-law, Chris, wielded the clippers with a whole lot of skill and a great big grin. Here are a few shots from the day...

Travelling on the Backroads of CT

On my way from 1 shoot to another today, I decided to take all back roads on this most beautiful fall day. From New Canaan to Bethel the leaves have finally started to change color and there is nothing better than driving with the sunroof open listening to the most amazing cruising music. Michael Connolly's CD "Room 116" has arrived and it's wonderful and mellow and perfect for taking a moment to chill and enjoy life. Water Filters!

This is so disturbing I had to blog about it right away! Clean water...we take it for granted. But just how clean is our water???? We have a water filter attached to our kitchen sink that has a separate spout for drinking water. We are supposed to change the filter once a year. Today was the day and this is what we witnessed. (In case you're wondering, the bright white one is the new one and yes, the brown one was white when we put it in.) As Steve would say "If you don't use a filter, you are the filter". That's part of the reason we contribute to Thirst Relief International. It's hard to believe that "1.1 million people lack access to clean drinking water." This is just one more thing to be thankful for.

Our last leg of the trip. We explored a bit of San Francisco today. Went through the Japanese Tea Garden. Olivia saw this umbrella and just had to have it. She carried it around the gardens and it was well worth the price we paid just to watch people's expressions at the site of an almost 3 year old shading herself from the sun!
We went to say good-bye to the Golden Gate Bridge since we didn't drive over it this trip and this was the site we saw....Just call this the Fog Blog!
We fly home in the morning but check back as I'll post some recaps and funny things that happened on the road.

We took it easy this morning and ventured out to the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose for some exploration with Olivia. She's been a trooper riding in the car for hours at a time so she really enjoyed herself! This afternoon we visited with Steve's family in Fremont for Aunt Jean's 80th Birthday! A special THANKS to John & Tien for all the awesome food and family fun!
We're off to Yosemite tomorrow so I probably won't be able to post until we get to San Francisco on Tuesday. I can't image I will have wireless access in my tent cabin in the park.

Today brought us on a tour of Sterling Vineyards where we took a gondola ride to their winery and tasting room high up on a mountain. Here are a few shots from there...

Ok, so maybe taking pictures from the car window is not a good idea when Steve is driving on roads with signs like this...
But then again, that's the type of road you have to travel on to get a view like this...

This is a shot from one of our favorite roads we've ever traveled on. Coleman Valley Road in Occidental. Steve and I found this road 8 years ago when we rented a motorcycle in San Francisco and went exploring. We're glad we got a chance to drive on it again. The hills gracefully sweep down to meet the ocean, where the water looks as though it falls off the edge of the earth. Our afternoon was an absolute delight filled with beautiful scenery, lots of smiles, a sense of well being and a picnic in the Sebastiani Vineyard.

Road Trip!

We've gone to California! We arrived yesterday by plane, hopped into our Prius and hit the Road.
We drove all through Napa. Passed all the vineyards and wineries, Simply Spectacular! I have a feeling I'll be shooting a lot from the car window or else I'll have to ask Steve to pull over every 5 minutes to take pictures. We'll never get to where we are going! We also went to the Petrified Forest and saw trees that were 3 million years old.
We'll be travelling to Napa, Sonoma, Calistoga, Down the coast to Monterey, Carmel & Big Sur, off to Yosemite Park and then to San Francisco for July 4th. Check back as we'll be blogging along the way!

A Minute in The Life

There is this guy from Maryland that put together a "Simultaneous Photography Project" The goal was to take a photo at 2:00pm EST on June 2, 2007 and submit it. When I first heard about this project I thought it was a great idea and started to brainstorm on what I would capture. After some time passed and I got busy again with work I completely forgot about the project. On June 3rd, I read a reminder about the project that had been posted on another photographers blog and gasped. I had missed it! But when I began to think about what I was doing the previous day at 2:00, my heart started racing. I opened Adobe Bridge, sorted my most recent folder by date created and bingo! This is what I just happened to have snapped at 2:03pm EST on June 2, 2007. I could not have planned it more perfectly!
My father-in-law and I were in a Glider Plane soaring over Lake Nockamixin in Erwinna, Pennsylvania.

So, Olivia was being really cute at breakfast the other morning. The light was coming in through the window so perfectly I had to run and get my camera. Here are a few shots I got, she did all the posing herself but I tested her to see if she could following direction on which way to move her head. She passed...Look out, we have a little 2 1/2 year old model on our hands!

Rock Stars, Soap Stars and New Life

This weekend was filled with excitement as I photographed Hinder live in Fairfield, CT. They put on a great show....man, can they rock it out!

Saturday, I was off to Manhattan to Volunteer with The Hands On Network, New York Cares and the cast and crew of Guiding Light. It's a wonderful feeling to give back to the community and really make a difference in someone's life. I worked with High School students to prepare their resumes and learn about the interview process. Everyone was a lot of fun to work with. Check out the slideshow here
And finally, (after my star studded weekend) I was brought back to reality when I saw this little bundle of life. It really put things in perspective. You can have money and fame but what matters most is family. There is nothing greater than creating a life and watching it grow. Congratulations to Chrissy and John on the birth of Anna Rose. Look at this beautiful little thing!

My wonderful college roommate gave me this framed print for a wedding gift 7 1/2 years ago. It hangs in my bedroom above my bed. When Olivia was born I noticed that for the first few months she would stare at this print and I always wondered what she was thinking. Now that she can talk, she said this a few weeks ago..

Congratulations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (Fairfield County Chapter) for raising $1.6 million Saturday Night at their Annual Spring Gala! Olivia Landau: World Traveler

We have a world traveler on our hands. At 2 1/2 years old, Olivia has no fear. She swam in the ocean and in the pool, zip-lined across the Jungle, slept on the long car rides, used a flashlight to find our bungalow by herself in the dark (we were a couple steps behind her), she spoke spanish when she could and introduced herself to the wonderful people of Mexico. She danced the Mambo during dinner and climbed all throughout a cave without asking Daddy to pick her up. She was excited to see all the "pyramids" and was looking for Diego the whole trip. We are so blessed to have such a good little girl who did not give us one bit of trouble while exploring a whole new world.

Yucatan, Mexico

We're back from our Adventures throughout the Yucatan. This trip was truly amazing. Crystal clear blue waters from Cancun down to Tulum. In Tulum we stayed at Posada Dos Ceibas and it was pure heaven. We did not want to leave especially after having the best dinner ever. The chef was nice enough to even give me the receipe for the Dos Ceibas Fish Filet!

We rented a car so that we could explore on our own but we did take one day to go on a Mayan Encounter tour. Unbelieveable! Steve repelled into a cenote, Olivia and I zip-lined across the jungle, we kayaked in a lagoon and swam in a cenote. After lunch in the Mayan village, we explored Coba, an ancient ruin where Steve climbed to the top! Spectacular Day.

On the Spring Equinox we were able to witness the phenomonon at Chichen Itza where the sun casts a shadow that looks like a serpent coming down the stairs. Thousands of people from around the world were there to see this remarkable sight.

I happen to have the best test subjects in the world! They were so patient with me when I was testing my new White Lightnings this weekend. You would think that having a 2 1/2 year old daughter that I would have millions of photos of her. I'm embarrased to say that usually the only time I photograph her is when I need a test subject or when we are on vacation. So I cherish these photos the most!

It is standing together and facing the world - and each other.
It is healing life's hurts and continuing onward.
It is sanctifying each other with a compliment each day.

It is encouraging each other's love to grow stronger.
It is sharing a candlelight dinner at home.
It is trusting each other with one's innermost feelings and thoughts.

It is being Christ for each other and for the world.
It is reaching for tomorrow by working on today.
It is not being married, but always marrying.

It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family.
It is speaking words of appreciation and
demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways.

It is having the capacity to forgive.
It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.
It is a common search for the good and the beautiful.

It is not only marrying the right person,

I'm in love with Crumpler Bags! There, I said it. I went into the west village the other day to pick up my new camera bag at the Crumpler store. I first saw these bags at PhotoExpo last November and bought just a small one to carry my video camera in. And since then, have kept dreaming of this backpack that I don't have to actually take off my back to get to my equipment. What I like most about this is that it doesn't really look like a camera bag and it has a compartment to carry other things (like diapers, wipes & snacks for Olivia) while we're on our excursions! So I just wanted to welcome my new "customary barge" into our camera bag family.

Brides New York Magazine

Brides Magazine just came out with their New York Edition! It is so nice to see a quality magazine with a local flair. Kudos to Jody Brefere, Greenwich based Event Planner, for getting her creative ideas published once again. The Magazine featured Jody's idea of PushCarts at a wedding reception. I had the pleasure of photographing an event that Jody put together this past spring at Cipriani 42nd Street in NYC. As guests left the reception Jody had a "Nuts 4 Nuts" vendor and a Hotdog vendor waiting for them. It was a huge hit as friends and family members got to experience just a little bit more of NYC. 2 of our photos accompanied the article. Click here to view a slide show of the wedding.

Lucinda: New CD Release This Fall

This week I had the greatest pleasure of photographing Singer / Songwriter Lucinda. And I just have to share my experience with you because she is such an inspiration. Her brand new CD will be released this Fall and it is a must have! Her music is moving, the lyrics brought tears to my eyes. Lucinda is not only an incredibly talented musician but she is the epitome of Beauty...Inside and Out. Listen for her on the radio coming soon! Congratulations to Jody Brefere, a very talented event planner from Greenwich, for being written up in the premier edition of Brides Connecticut Magazine! Jody gave expert advice on ways to add unique touches to wedding reception decor and the article included a few of our photos!

This Fall 2006 edition also features our Engagement Session with Lauren and Jeff. Lauren was interviewed and quoted on why she chose the location for the portrait session. We are very excited to have our photos in this new and fresh wedding magazine!

We are so happy to announce that Sweet Lisa's Exquisite Cakes of Greenwich chose one of our images to use in their Advertisment in several magazines! It's in the June issue of Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, Health, Cosmopolitan and Elle! Sweet Lisa's makes incredible cakes for all occasions and we are extremely excited when we find out they've baked the cake for a wedding we are photographing. What a treat!

Kevin and Michelle

It's always interesting how our Clients find us since we don't do any advertising. Kevin and Michelle came to us since Kevin sold us our new Infiniti G35x. What a great couple they are! So relaxed with each other and very playful! We took some engagement portraits the week before the wedding. And for a Bride who was so concerned about the weather on her wedding day, they had the most gorgeous day (and sunset!) on the beach on the north shore of Long Island. Thanks Kevin and Michelle for being so much fun!

Jeffrey Gaines

"You can sing for millions of people in your career; or maybe just one. You can sell millions of records, or none at all. You can win awards, or never win a damn thing; it doesn't really matter. If you play music with passion and love and honesty, then it will nourish your soul, heal your wounds, make your life worth living. You will have made a difference." These words written by Jeffrey Gaines are in his album jacket "Jeffrey Gaines Live". And I have to say it is very rare to see a performer with such intense passion for his music and for his fans.
After a long weekend of shooting, we hurried out to the Green in Danbury to catch Jeffrey wrapping up the Hat City Music Festival. He had the ability to make you feel as though you were the only one there to see him play. From on stage it seemed as though he made a personal connection with each of his fans. And after his show, he greeted everyone and signed autographs. He even was so kind as to talk to one of our good friends (who is a HUGE Jeffrey Gaines fan) on Steve's cell phone! What a down to earth, kind hearted & talented performer. He signed a CD for Olivia and wrote "Olivia, Make your life extraordinary". I'd say that's the best advice I've heard in a long time. Thanks Jeffrey!

Portugal Favorites

Here are just a few of my favorite photographs from our trip to Portugal. We were lucky enough to take a few days before Tom and Olga's wedding to visit Lisbon and Sintra. But most of my favorites are of our little peanut, Olivia and my amazing husband, Steve.

Wedding In Portugal

We were very humbled when Tom and Olga hired us to photograph their wedding in Portugal a few weeks ago. We knew it was going to be a beautiful weekend but never could we have imagined what was in store for us. Our base city was Porto, in the northern part of Portugal (famous for Port wine). Their festivities started on Friday evening with a welcome dinner for all to attend. Saturday was filled with a trip to Fatima. And the wedding took place on Sunday in a beautiful church built in the 1600's with a reception at Quinta Ferreirinha next door. The party included lots and lots of food, waiters who played trumpets as they brought out each course, a mexican hat dance, and fireworks as Tom and Olga cut their cake. Just when you thought the party was over, the grills started up to cook up some late night snacks. Sausage flambe was among my favorite! We were so excited to be a part of this special trip. Engagement Session

I recently had the pleasure of photographing an engagement session for such an awesome couple. Mark and Cheryl were attendants in a wedding I photographed almost 3 years ago and now it's their turn to get married! I am so honored that they want me to shoot their wedding coming up in August. We met up in Greenwich on their 8th anniversary to get these shots. It's so nice to work with a couple who is so much in love. Can't wait for the big day!

Life Goal

Yesterday, I completed one of my many Life Goals! I had the opportunity to photograph my all time favorite band while they performed at the Nokia Theater in Times Square!
I have loved the music of LIVE since high school and admire the talent, hard work and dedication these guys posess to have made it this far in their career. What an incredible experience! Their new CD "Songs from Black Mountain" comes out May 13th Enjoy!
